When talking about the geeky environment and colleagues, I believe at NL-ix we complete each other
Who is NL-ix?
Behind the world of the Internet, behind the world of fibers, protocols, peers and terabytes, are actual people making it all work. But who are these people? In other words: Who is NL-ix?
Today: š¤ Sara Abulajras - Business Development Manager
Iād say Iām an unusual mix as Iām half Croatian and half Libyan. I was brought up in Dubai, then moved to the UK, studying in Manchester and Glasgow. Then I moved to Croatia and now Iām living and working between Frankfurt and the Netherlands. Iām a very sociable and enthusiastic person and I love all the experiences and people that these different places bring. When Iām not working, I love singing and dancing.
My first experience with the Internet was probably Google or YouTube. I had no idea how things worked, it just mattered that they did. I also had no idea how big the Internet is, and what a small team make it work. As Iāve got to know more, my reaction has turned from surprise to fascination, and now I talk about the Internet for a living.
Iāve only worked with NL-ix for five months as Business Development Manager. I build relationships with new and existing customers, make sure they are happy with the services they receive from NL-ix, and help them make the right choices. We have about 600 customers, and I try to contact them all regularly. Some of them say āWeāre fine thanks, call me back in three monthsā but most of them like to be asked how things are going.
Before that I worked with Cogent for a couple of years, my first Internet-focused role. I studied Business Management and I have always worked in sales in some form or other. Over the years I have sold just about everything, from cosmetics to marina berths to hotel supplies.

What attracted me most at NL-ix was the family atmosphere in the company. I love the fact that at NL-ix we all work as a team rather than in separate boxes. This helps people like me who donāt have the in-depth technical background as some others do. My NL-ix colleagues know a lot and they can always answer all my questions and love solving problems!
When talking about the geeky environment and colleagues, I believe at NL-ix we complete each other. None of these sophisticated services would work without the networking geeks, but they need someone like me to concentrate on communicating with the customers. And even though a lot of them might call themselves āgeeksā they are a very sociable outgoing bunch.
In two weeks time, my colleague Marlou's profile is next, she is a part of our new product "Elastic interconnect". I'm hoping she is able to give a clear and simple explanation on this new fascinating solution and explain the potential for enterprise customers.
